Vorschau auf die Drag Race Union Challenges 2026:
Eine neue Klasse und viele bekannte Gesichter. 2026 verspricht spannend zu werden. In Pro ET haben sich 32 Teams eingeschrieben. In Supro ET 24 und 8 in der, für die DRU neuen Klasse Super Comp.
Erneut zählen pro Teilnehmer und Teilnehmerin die vier besten Rennen der Saison. Das erhält unserer Meinung nach die Spannung hoch. Es gibt doch etliche Teams denen es schwer fällt mehr als drei Rennveranstaltungen zu besuchen. Mit dieser maximal 4 Rennen Regel legen wir den Fokus etwas mehr auf gute Ergebnisse, als einfach nur bei vielen Rennen Punkte zu sammeln. Dieses Prinzip hat sich bewährt.
In Pro ET tritt Meister Martin Weikum an um seinen Titel zu verteidigen. Viele bekannte Gesichter sind wieder mit am Start. Ronnie Mercer, Meister von 2024, ebenso wie Thomas Bublitz, Stefan Alberth, Rilana Dold und Andere. Traurig machte uns der Ausfall unseres niederländischen Freundes Niek de Kruif, der seine komplette Rennoperation in einem Feuer verloren hat. Dank der großartigen Dragster Gemeinschaft konnte durch eine Gofundme Spendenaktion zumindest die finanziellen Verluste ein ganz klein wenig abgefedert werden. Die 40 Jahre Leidenschaft (und Geld), die in alles flossen, können da nur bedingt kompensiert werden. Danke an dieser Stelle an alle, die etwas gegeben haben und den Spendenaufruf teilten.
Mich persönlich freut, das eines der Urgesteine des Bracketracing in Deutschland (ich spreche hier von der Zeit ab den 2000ern, nicht den alten Hanau, Luckau, Giebelstadt Tagen) wieder zurück sein wird. Tony Brandes hat der Klasse Pro ET in den 2000ern wieder neuen Atem eingehaucht, lange Jahre begleitet, Rennen organisiert und mit seinem Ikonischen Hot Rod gute Ergebnisse eingefahren. Er war damals Auslöser, dass die Supro ET Aktivitäten in Deutschland in Schwung kamen, ab 2008 dann die erste Challenge von Pat Kaiser und der Familie Winter ideell und real angepackt wurde. Die Supro ET Challenge gibt es nun in der 19 (neunzehnten) Ausgabe (ich weiß, die Corona Jahre muss man abziehen). Nachdem er sich Ende der 2000er etwas zurückzog stießen Jonny und Oli in diese Lücke, der Pro ET Dragracing Europe Verein wurde gegründet, der dann letztendlich zur Drag Race Union wurde. Sehr viel Geschichte kommt da wieder auf die Strecke zurück. Mal schauen mit was für einem Gefährt.
Wir haben dieses Jahr auch eine weitere Premiere, Sascha Herrmann, der allseits bekannte Lupo, BMW, Cupra Treter, Moderator und Videoblogger, nimmt als erster Teilnehmer mit einem FRONTKRATZER eine Challenge unter die Räder. Das er weiß wie es geht, das wissen wir. Schauen wir wo er sich am Ende der Saison platzieren wird.
Wir verzeichnen auch fünf Nennungen von VW Käfern, das alte Duell US Car gegen Käfer riss schon immer die Leute von ihren Sitzen. Das wird es auch bei uns in der Challenge tun.
Kommen wir zu Supro ET. 24 Nennungen, das ist ein leichter Trend nach oben.
Leider kann einer unserer langjährigen Sponsoren und Teilnehmern (Beat Rechsteiner) aus Mangel an Crewmitgliedern nur bedingt in das Lenkrad eingreifen und blieb uns dieses Jahr nur als Sponsor erhalten. Das Team Rudiferia, die den Old Smuggler letztes Jahr das erste Mal ausgeführt haben, sind leider nicht in der Challenge dabei. Geschäftlich gibt es da Umstrukturierungen. Das lässt nur Zeit für die beiden Rennen in Italien. Wir haben neben Marco Meroni in Pro ET noch weitere Teilnehmer aus Italien. Die Klasse Super Pro ET hat gleich drei flotte und starke Italiener am Start. Das ist eine schöne Entwicklung. Italien, sowie Frankreich sind in unseren Challenges leider kaum vertreten. Für Italien ändert sich das in diesem Jahr.
Die Schweiz ist dieses Jahr mit 7 Teilnehmern stark vertreten, einige neue Gesichter sind da am Start. Die werden die etablierten Teams bestimmt gut aufmischen. Team 74 Racing/Mike Bruckmüller, ist nach längerer Abstinenz wieder zurück in der Challenge. Das freut mich sehr.
Super Comp. Diese Klasse hat sich in den letzten Jahren berappelt. Das nahmen wir zum Anlass auch für diese Klasse eine Challenge auszuschreiben. Sam Weyland ist da der Mittelsmann, schön dich bei der DRU mit an Bord zu haben.
Acht Nennungen sind da schon eine gute Hausnummer. Wir sind gespannt ob es genügend Teilnehmer gibt, die Klasse in Italien endlich auf die Strecke zu bringen. Das wäre wünschenswert. Wir werden es sehen.

Preview of the Drag Race Union Challenges 2026:
A new class and many familiar faces. 2026 promises to be exciting. 32 teams have registered for Pro ET, 24 for Superpro ET, and 8 for the Super Comp class, new to the DRU.
Once again, the four best races of the season will count for each participant. In our opinion, this keeps the excitement high. There are quite a few teams that find it difficult to attend more than three race events in a season. With this maximum of four races rule, we are focusing a bit more on good results than simply accumulating points in many races. This principle has proven successful.
In Pro ET, champion Martin Weikum will compete to defend his title. Many familiar faces will be back on the starting grid, including Ronnie Mercer, champion of 2024, as well as Thomas Bublitz, Stefan Alberth, Rilana Dold, and others. We were saddened by the loss of our Dutch friend Niek de Kruif, who lost his entire racing operation in a fire. Thanks to the amazing dragster community, a GoFundMe campaign helped to at least partially offset the financial losses. The 40 years of passion (and money) that went into everything can only be partially compensated. A big thank you to everyone who contributed and shared the appeal.
I'm personally delighted that one of the pioneers of bracket racing in Germany (I'm talking about the early 2000s, not the old days in Hanau, Luckau, and Giebelstadt) will be returning. Tony Brandes breathed new life into the Pro ET class in the 2000s, supported it for many years, organized races, and achieved great results with his iconic hot rod. He was the catalyst for the Supro ET activities in Germany, and then, starting in 2008, Pat Kaiser and the Winter family tackled the first challenge, both conceptually and practically. The Supro ET Challenge is now in its 19th edition (I know, you have to subtract the years affected by the pandemic). After taking a step back in the late 2000s, Jonny and Oli stepped in, founding the Pro ET Dragracing Europe club, which eventually became the Drag Race Union. History is now back on the track. Let's see what kind of vehicle Tony will be using.
This year we also have another premiere: Sascha Herrmann, the well-known Lupo, BMW, and Cupra enthusiast, presenter, and video blogger, is the first participant to take on a challenge with a front-scratcher. We know he knows what he's doing. Let's see where he places at the end of the season.
We also have five entries for VW Beetles; the old duel between American cars and Beetles has always had people on the edge of their seats. It will certainly do the same in our challenge.
Now let's talk about the Supro ET. 24 entries - that's a slight upward trend. Unfortunately, one of our long-time sponsors and participants (Beat Rechsteiner) can only contribute to the driving to a limited extent due to a lack of crew members and remains with us this year only as a sponsor. Team Rudiferia, who first ran the „Old Smuggler“ last year, are unfortunately not participating in the challenge. They're undergoing some business restructuring. This leaves them only time for the two races in Italy. In addition to Marco Meroni in Pro ET, we have other participants from Italy. The Super Pro ET class boasts three fast and strong Italians. That's a great development. Unfortunately, Italy and France are hardly represented in our challenges. This will change for Italy this year. Come on France. Switzerland is strongly represented this year with seven participants, including some new faces. They'll certainly give the established teams a run for their money. Team 74 Racing/Mike Bruckmüller is back in the challenge after a long absence. I'm very happy about that.
Super Comp. This class has recovered in recent years. We took this as an opportunity to also organize a challenge for this class. Sam Weyland is the liaison, it's great to have you on board at DRU.
Eight entries is already a good number. We're curious to see if there are enough participants to finally get the class on the track in Italy. That would be desirable. We'll see.
The season has already begun with the Festival of Power in Santapod. The season concludes with the annual championship celebration on October 24, 2026, in the Augsburg area. Further details will follow.
